Establishment of Sharjah Media City (Shams) Free Zone

About the Event

His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued Emiri Decree No. 10 of 2016 to set up the Sharjah Media City (Shams) Free Zone. The decree stipulates that Shams will be an independent corporate body with financial and administrative independence. 

The objectives of Shams will be to develop and house human resources that operate in the field of media and innovation. Shams will also aim to be a regional leader in the field of education, media training, creativity and in the development of high-quality innovative content. The city will offer management support services and any other services that help achieve its goals. The Media City will set up companies, institutions and projects within the Free Zone in accordance with the regulations specified by the Emiri Decree on the licensed operations and activities to be practiced within the Free Zone.

Shams Free Zone is a tax-free Free Zone with an infrastructure that matches the international standards. By virtue of the Decree, the city shall also enjoy full legal independence in carrying out its duties, especially with regard to the issuance of licenses and the standards of practicing the activity in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the UAE and the Emirate of Sharjah.

In February 2017, His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi issued Emiri Decree No. 12 of 2017 to appoint HE Dr. Khalid Omar Al Midfa as Chairman of Sharjah Media City (Shams).
